Jack Dempsey
One of the most feared boxers of all time, Jack Dempsey was a legend during his time and his name continues to be revered to this day. Dempsey was known for his devastating punches, and quick footwork. Dempsey was born on June 24th, 1895, in the small Colorado twon of Manassa. Dempsey had a storied fighting career by the time he was 24, having participated in as many as 80 fights by then. Dempsey gained a reputation as a powerful boxer by viciously knocking out his opponents within seconds of the match beginning.

Proving his toughness, Dempsey successfully defended his title six times. Dempsey would not be unseated until many years later in 1926, when he lost to the formidable Gene Tunney. Jack Dempsey would continue to fight, retiring permanently in 1940. Dempsey led a successful private life, establishing a restaurant in New York. Jack Dempsey remains one of the legends of boxing, and has inspired generations with his powerful technique. Dempsey was truly a phenomenon in his own time, going through several names in his boxing career. After winning his first heavyweight title match, Dempsey became known as the “Manassa Mauler.”
