Aurora, Colorado
The city of Aurora was founded much later than its nearby counterparts of Denver and Colorado Springs. Aurora was first settled in 1891 by a wealthy real estate businessman. The real estate tycoon that first paid for the settlement of the town soon gave up on his investment, however, and left the residents behind with heavy debts. Colorado, Springs
Colorado Springs, the second largest city in Colorado, was originally founded as a resort town in August of 1871. The high climate, dry air, and beautiful scenery made the small town a success as a resort destination. International visitors stayed at the successful Antlers Hotel to enjoy the beautiful Colorado land. The town was largely the project of General William Palmer and his wife, who founded the Antlers Hotel. Denver, Springs
Denver first saw European settlement by the Americans in 1858, when gold prospectors from out of Kansas arrived in the area. The Pikes Peak Gold Rush enticed many prospectors into the area, luring them with promises of easy gold. The difficulty of the terrain had previously kept settlement from taking hold, with many prospectors and land speculators moving westward instead.
